Know yourself !

“I have no caliber”, “I lack ability’ “I am a neglected lot” “My classmates who were even poorer than me in studies are adorning lucrative positions, but, unfortunately, I reached nowhere” “I have become a nonentity in the society”- so goes the refrain of rejection and self pity of our youth shadowed by clouds of uncertainty. This attitude of our youth is, in all respects, plaguing our society. The problem lies in the fact that they have not yet taken pains to understand themselves.

In the hustle and bustle of daily life, they have not yet spared a moment to ponder on their inherent potential and capabilities. There is a  saying in Malayalam “An elephant does not know its strength” If it had been aware of its strength, it would have barged into our premises, demolished our buildings and made a rampage of our campuses. Dear young men and women do you know why you are relegated to the background?

Why you are always hunched in an obscure corner? The reason is loud and clear- You have not got the much needed desire to grow, to reach the forefront, to bring out your dormant faculties and escalate great heights. The inability to climb the formidable peak-Mount Everest- did not dampen the spirits of Tenzing. He challenged “Mount Everest, you are not invincible to me. I will conquer you imminently because you are not
going to grow again, but I am still growing” If you are imbued with this spirit, I can categorically state that you will never be complacent. You will do whatever you can to grow to any heights. We have not yet analysed the plethora of resources we have been equipped with by our Lord Almighty. In the words of the great philosopher Frankhein, “We have not yet plunged into the ocean of our capabilities with the aid of our deep sea equipment Awareness, Awakening and Consciousness” The Temple of Delphi greets us with the words “Know thyself” This is nothing but a clarion call to rise up from our deep slumber.

It is high time that we knew ourselves-our abilities and talents. God has a specific programme for each one of us. He expects us to make the best use of the abilities we are blessed with. It is incumbent on our part to utilize our faculties for His glory. Quite often, we blame our kith and kin as well as our circumstances for our stunted growth and development. We know, passing the buck is the last resort of a coward. We have to shun our broodings and rise above our adverse circumstances to live up to the expectations of our Lord. We should not lose hope under discouraging circumstances. We should never be bogged down by tribulations. The trials and tribulations that we go through are not to destroy us, but to mould us according to His will. King David, Job, Paul etc are living testimonies to this great reality. We should derive abundant energy from each trial and gallop to the finishing point of success.

We have to discharge the primary responsibility entrusted to us by our Lord. It is nothing but spreading the Gospel. You should be aware that we have reached the fag end of the fourth dimension-time. Let us wake up from the slumber and carry out the noble duty of propagating His word.
